Custom Silk Scarves FAQ: Every Question We Get Asked, Answered

Quick answer: LS Silk prints custom silk scarves from your artwork for artists, galleries, schools, businesses and couples across the United States and Canada. You order online in the Custom Studio, from a single finished sample up to 100 pieces per design. Production takes 4 to 5 weeks once your artwork is approved, plus 5 to 8 business days for delivery. Prices start at $27 a piece for pocket squares in a production run.

Some questions come up in almost every first conversation. Others arrive mid-project, when a decision appears that nobody planned for. This page collects both. If yours is not here, email support@lovesilk.com.

Ordering

How does ordering custom silk scarves work?

Choose your size, silk, finish and quantity in the Custom Studio, see your price, and upload your artwork. We review the artwork, you approve the details, and production begins. Your scarves are then shipped by DHL Express.

Do I need to know exactly what I want before I start?

No. The Custom Studio walks you through each choice and shows the price as you go. Our brief guide and template helps if you would like to plan first.

Can I see a sample before ordering a full run?

Yes. A finished sample is one complete scarf in your chosen silk and finish. It is optional, takes 4 to 5 weeks, and costs $91 to $140 depending on size. We recommend it when color is critical or the order is large.

What happens if the sample is not right?

Tell us what needs to change. We adjust the artwork or color and, if needed, make a revised sample. A production run that follows a sample begins only once you have approved it.

Minimum orders and quantities

What is the minimum order for custom silk scarves?

One. You can order a single finished sample, a small run of 2 to 20 pieces, or a production run of 30 to 100 pieces per design. Read our cost guide to see how quantity changes the price per piece.

Why can I not order 21 to 29 pieces?

Thirty pieces at the production price cost the same in total as 20 pieces at the small-run price, so 30 is the better order.

Can I order more than 100 pieces?

Yes. Orders over 100 pieces per design are quoted individually. Email support@lovesilk.com.

Can I order several designs at once?

Yes. Each design is ordered separately in the Custom Studio, and quantity pricing applies per design.

Artwork and files

What file should I send?

Prepare your design on a square canvas at 300 DPI at the finished size, in RGB color mode. Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) suit graphic designs. High-resolution PSD, TIFF or PNG files suit painted or photographic artwork. Read our full artwork preparation guide.

How do I send my artwork?

Upload a JPEG or PNG preview of up to 20 MB in the Custom Studio, then share a link to the full-resolution file through Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer. You can also email files to support@lovesilk.com after ordering.

Does my artwork need adapting for a scarf?

Often, yes. Most artwork is not square, so it is cropped or framed with a border. Read our guide to designing for silk and our border and hem color guide.

Can I use artwork I do not own?

No. You must own the artwork or have permission to reproduce it, including any logos, trademarks or crests. You confirm this when you order. Your artwork remains yours; we use it only to make your scarves.

Silks, sizes and finishes

What silks do you offer?

Three in the Custom Studio: silk twill at 14 momme, silk twill at 16 momme, and crêpe de Chine at 14 momme. All are 100% mulberry silk. Silk chiffon and heavier silks are available by quote. Read our silk comparison guide and momme weight guide.

What sizes are available?

Four squares in the Custom Studio: a 12.2 in (31 cm) pocket square, a 20.9 in (53 cm) small square, a 25.6 in (65 cm) classic square and a 35 in (89 cm) large square. Long scarves, skinny scarves and other sizes are available by quote. Read our size guide.

What is the difference between a hand-rolled hem and a machine hem?

A hand-rolled hem is rolled and stitched by hand into a soft, rounded edge. A machine hem is flat, straight and consistent, and costs $2 less per piece. Read our guide to hand-rolled vs machine hems.

Are the scarves printed on both sides?

Yes. Every scarf is printed on both sides at full strength, so the color is rich whichever way it is worn.

Can you print white?

No. There is no white ink in digital silk printing. White areas in your artwork appear as the natural color of the silk, a warm ivory.

Can you add labels or gift packaging?

Yes, by quote. Woven labels, care tags and gift packaging are not part of the Custom Studio. Email support@lovesilk.com with what you need.

Color

Which Pantone system should I use?

Pantone TCX, the textile system. Pantone C is made for coated paper and will not predict how a color looks on silk. Read our color accuracy guide.

Can you match our brand color?

Yes, closely. Choose “Match a specific color” in the Custom Studio and give us the Pantone TCX reference. We print color variations on silk for you to approve before production, for a small extra charge. Digital printing gets very close but cannot promise an exact spot-color match. Our guide to digital vs screen printing explains why.

Pricing

How much does a custom silk scarf cost?

A 25.6 in (65 cm) silk twill scarf with a hand-rolled hem costs $36 to $42 each for 30 to 100 pieces and $62 to $97 each for 2 to 20 pieces. Read our full cost guide.

Do prices include sales tax and delivery?

No. Prices are in US dollars and exclude delivery. Sales tax, where it applies, is calculated at checkout. Both are shown in your order summary before you pay.

Timing and delivery

How long does an order take?

Production takes 4 to 5 weeks once your artwork and production details are approved, and delivery takes 5 to 8 business days. Allow about 5 to 7 weeks without a sample and 11 to 13 weeks with one. Read our full timeline guide.

How are orders delivered?

By DHL Express, tracked, with duties paid, to any address in the United States or Canada.

Are repeat orders faster?

A repeat order of an approved design needs no new artwork review or sample, so it goes straight to production. Allow about 5 to 7 weeks.

Caring for custom silk scarves

How should I wash a custom silk scarf?

Hand wash in cool or lukewarm water with a small amount of gentle detergent made for delicates. Move the scarf gently for two to three minutes without rubbing or twisting. Rinse in cool water, roll it in a towel to remove excess water, and lay it flat to dry in the shade. Never tumble dry. Iron on the lowest heat with a dry iron and a pressing cloth. See our silk care guide.

Can custom silk scarves be dry cleaned?

Yes, though frequent dry cleaning is not recommended. Gentle hand washing is better for regular care.

Will the colors fade?

The dyes are steam-set into the silk fiber, so the colors hold well through washing and wear. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, hot water and harsh detergents.
